BMI CALCULATOR
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple measure that uses your height and weight to estimate body fat. It helps categorise underweight, normal, overweight, and obese. While not a direct diagnostic tool, it's a useful screening indicator.
How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight (kg) / (height (m))². For example, a person 175 cm tall and 70 kg has BMI = 70 / (1.75)² = 22.9, which falls in the normal range.
BMI categories (WHO)
🔹 Underweight: < 18.5
🔹 Normal weight: 18.5 – 24.9
🔹 Overweight: 25 – 29.9
🔹 Obese: ≥ 30
Limitations & health tips
BMI doesn't distinguish muscle from fat. Athletes may have high BMI but low fat. Always consult a professional for personalised advice. A balanced diet and regular exercise are key to a healthy weight.
